Australian singer-songwriter | Americana, Roots & Electronic

Abbie Cardwell is an award-winning Australian singer-songwriter whose music draws on Americana, roots and alternative influences. Throughout her career, she has followed her own musical instincts, developing a sound that reflects both her songwriting roots and her curiosity as an artist.

Her album Love Is An Amplifier marks a new chapter in her musical journey. Created in collaboration with producer Matthew Engelbrecht, the album brings together samples, beats, pedal steel, acoustic instrumentation and electronic production. The result is a collection of songs that moves beyond the musical territory Abbie had previously explored.

The album grew out of a period of significant personal change. After several years away from songwriting, Abbie found herself returning to music following the loss of her father, the end of a relationship and the passing of her beloved dog. These experiences became part of the emotional landscape of the record, informing songs about love, loss, resilience and moving forward.

Abbie's career includes winning Triple J Unearthed, the BMI USA Songwriter award and ABC Music Awards. She has performed at major Australian festivals including WOMAD, Woodford Folk Festival and Splendour in the Grass, and shared stages with artists including Steve Earle, Tony Joe White, David Knopfler, The Waifs and Kasey Chambers.

Abbie is now bringing Love Is An Amplifier to the stage in a new hybrid live show with her band, featuring Warren Earle on pedal steel and Rod Coe on double bass. Alongside her vocals, banjo, guitar and harmonica, Abbie incorporates an electronic trigger pad into the performance, bringing the album's electronic elements into a dynamic live setting. The result is a meeting of roots instrumentation, live performance and electronic rhythms.

With Love Is An Amplifier, Abbie has taken a fresh approach to her music, embracing new production techniques and unexpected combinations while keeping the song at the centre of it all. Her willingness to follow an idea wherever it leads, rather than settle into a particular genre or musical identity, continues to shape her work as a songwriter and recording artist.
